Artist Statement – Daniel Wave

My work explores the creative potential of randomness and computer-generated imagery as a means to uncover visual expressions that transcend traditional, analog approaches. By harnessing algorithms to produce spontaneous color compositions, I tap into a boundless source of inspiration—revealing forms, moods, and visual narratives that might otherwise remain undiscovered.

These algorithmic patterns often feel like stumbling upon hidden gemstones. While many generated combinations are simple or fleeting, others unexpectedly reveal moments of profound emotional depth and visual magic. Free from imitation or external influence, each composition emerges as something entirely new—an organic evolution shaped by chance and guided by a minimalist, unstructured aesthetic.

This process allows for a sense of lightness and spontaneity, yet remains firmly rooted in creative intention. I’m drawn to the tension between control and unpredictability, using randomness not as a gimmick, but as a tool to challenge conventional modes of creation and perception.

In a cultural landscape dominated by performance, image, wealth, and consumption—values perpetuated through relentless advertising—my recent series, Billboards for the Uncool, redirects the gaze toward quieter virtues: reason, modesty, and restraint. These works are a call to reconsider what we celebrate, and to find meaning in what is often overlooked.

I exclusively create unique, one-off pieces. Rather than working in series or repetition, I favor continual exploration—pursuing new ideas and discovering visual moments that surprise even me. Each work is a singular artifact of this journey.
